Latest News (Last Updated 2/13/2018)

Report Airport Noise via a smartphone app for Android phones that allows you to automatically file a complaint with the SFO Noise Abatement Office with a couple of quick taps.

In November 2017, the FAA gave an update on Phase 2 for the initiative to address noise concerns of Santa Cruz/Santa Clara/San Mateo/ San Francisco Counties.  Click here to view that document. Most of the working groups in these counties do not feel that it addressed all of the concern nor had a definitive plan for aircraft noise mitigation.

At the 6/12/17 Airport Noise Subcommittee, Bert Ganoung of the SFO Aircraft Noise Abatement Office said he would secure two monitors in the next few months for Brisbane, recommending they be placed at Mission Blue and Lipman, away from HVAC.  They are being placed instead at Mission Blue Center and Silverspot Cooperative Preschool every quarter (3rd and 4th week of January, April, July and October).  When concluded, Ganoung will only provide the raw data, not a complex report; we have yet to receive the raw data for review.  Ganoung also said he had sent TRACON a request to increase the elevation of the airplanes.

The Subcommittee met on May 1, 2017 to discuss the Brisbane Aircraft Monitoring Report (April, 2017) that pertained to the four portable noise monitors in town.  This report evaluates the period of January 13-26, 2017, as this is when all four portable monitors were simultaneously deployed.

The Airport Noise Subcommittee meets on a regular basis.  To receive Subcommittee meeting information, please contact Angel Ibarra.  To be added to the Brisbane Community Airport Noise Group, please contact Peter Grace at vessacks@gmail.com .

The SFO Roundtable holds regular meetings monthly.  Please go to their website for updated information or you may sign up here for their email updates.  The SFO Roundtable's Response to the FAA Initiative to Address Noise has been finalized and can be viewed here.  Councilmember Lentz, Former Chair of the SFO Roundtable, also submitted this letter in support of the SFO Airport/Community Roundtable's response.  Councilmember O'Connell is the City's new representative to the SFO Roundtable.

Reports from the SFO Noise Abatement Office

Brisbane Aircraft Noise Monitoring (April, 2017)

Short Term Aircraft Noise Monitoring Report (February, 2016)
This report was prepared after monitoring was completed at Mission Blue Center (from 4/29/15 - 5/13/15).

Aircraft Noise Terminology & Metric Supplement (2014, accompanied above monitoring report as it provides information on aircraft noise terminology and metric to assist in understanding the measurement result)

Aircraft Overflight & Noise Analysis - Technical Report for Brisbane (December, 2010)
This report measured noise at the Ridge, close to Lipman, and the Brisbane noise monitor.  Review of historical radar data from 2000 through November 2010 was also accomplished using SFO’s Airport Noise and Operations Management System (ANOMS).

Reports from the FAA

Beginning in June 2012, the Federal Aviation Administration provided monthly data detailing the aircraft that departed from SFO and flew through a circle 1 nautical mile in diameter that the FAA created for analytical and operational purposes.  The FAA's objective was to avoid having aircraft penetrate the circle if possible, given safety and other operational constraints.
