Remediation

The Baylands is comprised of a former municipal landfill and former rail yard and presents both exciting opportunities and formidable challenges for the City.  The site’s history left a legacy of contamination requiring millions of dollars and years of remediation, which is still ongoing.  In 2005, the City contracted with the environmental consulting firm, Camp Dresser McKee, Inc, to conduct peer review of the environmental engineering efforts.  The links below provide their report and presentation.  Contamination and remediation issues will be discussed in further detail in the forthcoming Baylands EIR.
