Happy 50th, Brisbane!! It's time to blow out your candles...until the next celebration!
If you take walks along Old Quarry Road, you may have noticed new signage at the beginning, middle, and end (just past the top bollards) of the road. These signs are the result of the collaborative efforts between the Open Space and Ecology Committee and the Parks and Recreation Commission, along with the volunteerism of Open Space and Ecology Committee member Peter Stiehler who installed the signs with a friend earlier this week. See below for a quick preview of the three signs.
So the next time you're out taking a stroll on Old Quarry Road, check out the signs and learn about the native vegetation and habitat that reside on San Bruno Mountain. We hope you enjoy the new signage!
Let’s “Complete the Village” of Brisbane together. Next Thursday, September 22nd, at 7:30pm, the Planning Commission will be holding a kick-off study session at City Hall on Form-Based Codes. This will be the first study session leading to community design charrettes (or collaborative design sessions), to rezone the properties immediately north of the Community Park (between the Skate Park and the Brisbane Village Shopping Center) and the properties along the southern end of Bayshore Boulevard. The area by the Community Park is planned to be rezoned from warehouse uses to neighborhood commercial mixed use and the properties along Bayshore Boulevard are planned for residential uses only, as set forth in the recently updated Housing Element.
Form-Based Codes provide a means to establish new development that turns its back on suburban sprawl, which has dominated development in the United States over the last century (as depicted in the inset photograph above). Instead, Form-Based Codes place an emphasis on the physical form of the building and how it adds value to the public realm (as shown in the larger photo above, which illustrates a much more inviting public space with increased walkability), rather than on the use and size of the building. Come join the conversation.
