Sand Bags Available

One can never be too prepared!  Sand bags are now available atop two palettes outside the gate of the Public Works Corp Yard, located at the intersection of Tunnel Ave. and Lagoon Rd.  Each sand bag weighs approximately 15 lbs. and are free for the taking.  So please stop by and pick up the amount you need...more will be made by the Public Works crew as necessary to ensure the community has what it needs to guard against flooding during the rainy season.  And, the below pics illustrate how Dolan, Joe, and Keegan from the PW crew got sand bag-making down to a simple, easy process -- with the help of some safety cones acting as pastry bags.  Now, that's creative.  Good work, guys!

Ever want to see what serving on a public commission was like?  Well here is your chance.  Approximately one year remains on former Planning Commissioner Theresa Maturo's term and the City Council is now accepting applications for this position.  Once this one-year term expires, the City Council will begin the recruitment process for a full, 4-year term.  Click here to learn more about the primary duties of the Planning Commission.  If you are interested in applying for this one-year term, please contact Sheri Spediacci at 415-508-2113 or send her an e-mail at cityclerk@ci.brisbane.ca.us.  The deadline to apply is 5:00pm, November 15, 2010.

Nov. 2nd Election Results

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Election results are updated as often as new data is received from county election offices after the polls closed at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. County elections officials must report their final results to the Secretary of State 31 days after Election Day, which for this election is December 3.  Therefore, view the "semi-official results" by clicking here.

Looks like the incumbents that represented Brisbane before Election Day will continue to do so, with Jackie Speier winning in the 12th Congressional District, Leeland Yee in the 8th Senate District, and Jerry Hill in the 19th Assembly District.  Additionally, Ken Walker, Leo Tingin, and Thomas Ledda were elected to the Brisbane School District Governing Board.

Lastly, if you'd like to see an overview of the nine statewide ballot measure voters weighed in on this November, with 5 failing and 4 passing, click here.

If you're a Comcast subscriber, you may be aware of the government-access channel, Ch. 27.  On it, public meetings such as City Council, Planning Commission, Open Space & Ecology, and Parks, Beaches, & Recreation Commission meetings are shown.  Often, they are replayed in case you happened to miss the live meeting.  In addition, the City tries to provide educational programming in the slots that public meetings aren't being played.  For instance, one of the programs now playing on Ch. 27 is "What Every President Should Know About Energy Efficiency, Part 1".   In it, a physics professor explains what every US President should know about energy. How do the global issues of climate change and energy security impact U.S. efforts toward gaining energy efficiencies and conservation of resources? The CA PUC commissioner relates how California utilities are achieving energy efficiencies.  Check the programming schedule for when it airs next, and maybe you'll like it so much, you'll want to check out Part 2, which airs next Monday, November 8th.  And, as always, Ch. 27 streams live on the City's website, just in case you don't subscribe to Comcast.

With the new website being just a few weeks old, we've been adding helpful tidbits to it here and there to make it as useful a tool as possible.  One of those items is the "Printer-friendly version" link you'll see near the top of every page on the website, sans the homepage.  This will make it easy to print meeting agendas, and any other pages of interest...for instance, the previous post about the Annual Winter Clean Up (maybe you can print the page so you have all this important information handy).  This option will save you a load of ink, as it gets rid of the background image.  So hold on longer to those ink cartridges, and go printer-friendly!
