A Taste of Government

This past Monday, the 2nd grade and 2nd/3rd grade combo classes from Brisbane Elementary School (BES) took a walk down to City Hall for a guided tour of the all departments, winding up and down hallways and meeting the staff behind the services provided to them and their families.  This was to supplement their Government curriculum they had been studying.  Both classes convened in-between tours to get an overview of the kinds of services the City provides, and how decisions in their community are made.  Fittingly, Councilwoman Richardson was present to talk about the election process, the different committees and commissions that report to the City Council, and even took questions from students.  Becca Waldo, completing her student teaching requirement with second grade teacher Ms. Jacobson, had the index cards on-hand where students had pre-written their questions on.  Good thing a step-stool was not too far away.  We thank Ms. Jacobson and Ms. Shereda for bringing their classes down; this was a great experience for us at City Hall, as well!
