BTWD 2011 Recap

Yesterday's Bike to Work Day was another roaring success in Brisbane...or should we say, a rolling success.  782 cyclists stopped or rode by one of Brisbane's two Energizer Stations.  The higher-traffic station, located on Lagoon @ Tunnel, had 327 cyclists stop to pick up BTWD swag bags and re-energize with refreshments, with 332 passer-by's.  Energizer Station volunteers Dee Sano, Jeanne Keresztes, and Bob and Susan Maynard made sure the riders were well-stocked on goodies and cheered them on as they continued on their ride to work.  The Public Works Crew even lent the use of their changeable message sign to encourage wide participation in the event.  It worked, and was a nice greeting for those coming over and down Tunnel Ave. Bridge.

At the other Energizer Station, located on the corner of Old County & Bayshore, volunteers Russ Carmick and Jason Lucey greeted participants and made sure everyone was well-hydrated.

Brisbane Marina Maintenance Worker Todd Curtis stopped by with his son Eddison, dropped Eddison off at school, and then continued on his way to work.  Other city staff members such as Russ Carmick and Karen Kinser also participated by biking into work.

Thank you to the many volunteers, as well as Joe and Theresa Riedell from the Senior Center, Walt from Public Works, Caroline from Bakers of Paris, and George from Mangiare, who each contributed invaluably to the success of Bike to Work Day 2011 in Brisbane.
