Climate Action Plan Adopted

At last night's City Council meeting, the Council voted unanimously to adopt the City's Climate Action Plan, which the Open Space and Ecology Committee and Council Liaisons Liu and Miller worked vigorously on over the past year (work at the OSEC subcommittee level dates back 10 years!).

"I'm just astounded by the work that the committees and the staff have produced and so proud to be a part of it and that we're going to try and make some headway and to make a difference.  It all starts small, and hopefully has an influence in the big picture," said Mayor O'Connell.

AB32 calls for the State to be at 1990 levels of greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.  The City's Climate Action Plan goes beyond that goal with the measures amounting to being 17.3% below 2005 greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.  Stay tuned for more information for how the Climate Action Plan provides a framework for all of Brisbane to meet its climate action goals.
