San Bruno Officials Stop In

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

At this past Monday night's City Council meeting, San Bruno Vice Mayor Michael Salazar and Finance Director for the City of San Bruno Edmund Suen presented a Proclamation to the City of Brisbane, for assistance provided in response to the tragic September 9, 2011 pipeline explosion and fire.  Nearly 900 Police and Fire personnel from throughout San Mateo County and the Bay Area fought the fire, evacuated residents, and assisted with the initial clean up and re-entry to the Glenview neighborhood.  During that same time, more than 200 non-safety personnel from neighboring jurisdictions, Brisbane included, responded and provided assistance to the community of San Bruno by staffing the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  Shifts in the EOC lasted 12 hours each, and staff from Brisbane helped in answering the public information line where residents and reporters caused the line to be ringing far more frequently than they had staff available to answer it.  This helped to quell the anxiety of the residents as well as assist reporters from local TV stations and news groups to report out accurate information to the public.  The City of Brisbane is appreciative of San Bruno stopping and presenting the City with a Proclamation, but wouldn't hesitate to offer the same support and services if ever the need arose.

San Mateo County Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson invites you to the "Take A Hike 2011" kick-off Saturday, April 9th, 9:00am, at San Bruno Mountain State and County Park, located right near our City of Stars.

So mark your calendars and get on your hiking shoes!

Supervisor Jacobs Gibson initiated "Take A Hike" three years ago as a way to encourage residents to become more active and learn about the beautiful parks and trails in San Mateo County.  On April 9, the Supervisor will welcome hikers and introduce the 2011 season, which features a new schedule of parks and trails, including a special “Dog Days of Summer: Bring Your Dog” walk in August.

Known for its wild flowers, San Bruno Mountain is the ideal location for an April walk.  Participants will be guided by a park ranger who will discuss the park’s history and uniqueness.  Participants of this first hike will receive an official "Take A Hike 2011" T-shirt.

Kinder Morgan, owners of what is known as the Tank Farm, located on Tunnel Avenue just past Tunnel Ave. Bridge, will attend the April 4th City Council meeting at the request of the City.  Events following the earthquake in Japan a few weeks ago prompted officials to ask Kinder Morgan to present an overview of their operations and the safety precautions they have in place should a disaster strike.  The public is encouraged to attend the City Council meeting or watch the presentation live on Ch. 27 starting at 7:30pm (if you subscribe to Comcast), or streaming live on the City's website here (if you don't).
