City of Brisbane Customers Save $304,000
Earn National Recognition for Commitment to Clean Energy

Brisbane, CA – April 16, 2019 – City of Brisbane customers saved $304,000 on their electricity bills in 2018 with Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE), while also earning national recognition for their commitment to renewable energy.

“Our City Council voted three years ago to form Peninsula Clean Energy so that customers can enjoy cleaner energy at lower rates. We are proud to deliver on that promise,” said Mayor Madison Davis, who represents the City of Brisbane on Peninsula Clean Energy’s Board of Directors.

Peninsula Clean Energy consistently sets its rates at 5% below PG&E’s electricity generation rates for its ECOplus product, resulting in millions of dollars of savings annually across its 290,000 customers. More than 97 percent of San Mateo County households and businesses purchase their electricity through Peninsula Clean Energy, and collectively saved an estimated $18 million in 2018.

This year the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized City of Brisbane as a Green Power Partner, based on its commitment to purchase 100 percent renewable energy for  municipal operations through PCE’s voluntary ECO100 program.

The EPA also recognized the city as a new member of its national Green Power Community program, based on community members’ use of PCE’s ECOplus clean energy mix containing at least 50 percent renewable energy.

Peninsula Clean Energy exceeds not only the EPA’s clean energy targets, but also California’s ambitious goals. PCE plans to provide 100 percent renewable energy by 2025, while the statewide goal is currently set at 60 percent renewable by 2030.

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Starting on or about April 15, 2019, all PG&E electric customers will be receiving a letter or an email letting them know that, as a last resort, PG&E may need to turn off their power for safety when extreme fire danger conditions are forecasted.  This is a part of PG&E Community Wildfire Safety Program.  Click here for a copy of the letter and here for PG&E's Public Safety Power Shutoff fact sheet.

PGE 1

Expansion of their Public Safety Power Shutoff program will begin with the 2019 wildfire season to include all electric lines that pass through high fire-threat areas – both distribution and transmission.

PGE 2

PG&E is encouraging all residents to update their contact info by visiting pge.com/mywildfirealerts today to make sure PG&E can provide customers with advance notice prior to turning off the power.  They will also provide updates until power is restored.  Other valuable items to consider doing now:

  • Identify backup charging methods for phones and keep hard copies of emergency numbers.
  • Plan for any medical needs like medications that need to be refrigerated or devices that require power.
  • Build or restock your emergency kit with flashlights, fresh batteries, first aid supplies and cash.

Thank you for your cooperation in this important safety & communication effort!
