LUNAFEST 2019

The weekend of March 22, 2019 was an excellent and exhilarating one in Brisbane as it marked the City hosting its inaugural LUNAFEST film festival!  Mayor Madison Davis’ vision became reality when community members filled Mission Blue on Saturday and by the end of the evening, a total of $30,000 was raised! This is the highest-grossing amount raised in the history of LUNAFEST, which began in 2000 by Luna Bar to celebrate, showcase, and champion women filmmakers.  And how cool that 3 out of the 5 Brisbane City Councilmembers are not only women, but were key sponsors of the evening...putting their money where their hearts and mouths are.  Our hats also go off to the team of 6 amazing women who organized and planned such a magical evening, complete with delicious concessions.  Brisbane Parks & Rec, you guys all shined, as well! We are a truly blessed community and look forward to gathering for more Lunafests in the future, as well as seeing how the Brisbane Lions Club helps distribute the funds raised to assist women in male-dominated fields. What a way to celebrate Women's History Month!

In the video below, Mayor Davis speaks at the Brisbane Lions' Scholarship Awards Night held on June 4, 2019, about the partnership between the Brisbane Lions Club and the City to host Brisbane's first-ever LunaFest.  Lunafest raised $30,000 for deserving women scholars.  At the Lions' Scholarship Awards Night event, $60,000 in scholarships was given to deserving Brisbane scholars seeking higher education.
