"Industrial" Art Exhibit

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

This isn't the first time virtual photographer Tom Heinz has had his work exhibited in a public space.  You may have seen his "tribal totem" photographs displayed at Madhouse Coffee on Visitacion, or at the City Art Cooperative Gallery where Tom's work is being displayed through the end of July (click here for the event flyer).  Still another place Tom's work is currently being displayed is at the Betty Weber Gallery, located within South San Francisco City Hall.  The gallery's hours are Friday 7/8 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm and Saturday 7/9, 10:00am - 4:00pm.  Click here for more information.

Tom's work on display in the large conference room at Brisbane City Hall

On Wednesday, September 21st, Tom will be having his artist's reception in Brisbane, City Hall, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.  Please join him as he speaks of his "Industrial" collection of photographs as well as a set of creative pieces.  To see more of Tom's work, and what he deems his "tribal totem" pieces (what you get when the water is perfectly still, the light near perfect, and the photograph swiveled 90 degrees) please check out his website, www.heinzight.com

Brisbane sure has it's share of fine local artists!  If you would like to display your art at City Hall, please contact Wendy Ricks at 508-2114.

At its June 20, 2011 meeting, the City Council voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2011-28, resulting in a 2% increase in berth fees to fund Marina improvements.  The changes to the berth rates according to slip size were made on the Marina's Berth Information page.  If you have any questions about the rates or want to inquire about berth availability, please contact the Marina office at (415) 508-2191.

Visitors to the Community Pool

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

If you're a regular at the Community Pool, or even happened to stop by in June, you were probably witness to the family of swallows that made one of the lights under the gazebo the location of their nest.  But if you didn't get a chance to see (or hear) these five baby swallows grow up until they were able to leave the nest a couple Saturdays ago, resident, pool frequenter, and Planning Commissioner Karen Evans Cunningham snapped the below pictures after finishing up her lap swim one day.  Enjoy, and check out the new water aerobics flyer.  In Brisbane, it's easy to get fit and experience nature at its finest -- and both at the same time.

Kinder Morgan FAQs

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Kinder Morgan came to the April 4, 2011 City Council meeting, at the request of the City, to present an overview of their operations and the safety precautions they have in place at what's commonly known in Brisbane as "the tank farm".  The request was made following the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March.  Staff worked with Kinder Morgan to prepare a fact sheet, which is comprised of questions that came forth after Kinder Morgan's presentation to the Council, and in the days that followed.  This page is housed on the City's website, under the "I Want To" column > Read > About Kinder Morgan, or http://brisbaneca.org/i-want/read/kinder-morgan-faqs .  We hope you find the page useful.  Should you have any more questions you want answered, you can either leave a comment here or contact staff at (415) 508-2157.

Civic Participation Project

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

In an effort to hear what's on the minds of its residents, the City has started using UserVoice, a free web-based tool that allows for residents to voice ideas and suggestions, and for existing ideas in the forum to be voted up and down, depending on how much you agree with them.  As you can see when you go to the forum, renovating/replacing the Community Park play equipment tops the list.

At this past Monday's Council meeting, a staff report outlining the various in-town projects as well as a proposal from the Brisbane School District was presented.  Council took no action at this meeting, since staff is still in the process of submitting a grant proposal, in the hopes of closing a $52,000 deficit between total project costs and the funds available to complete all three.  Final word on whether the grant is awarded the City will not be until November of this year.

In the meantime, staff will be meeting with community leaders on the visioning work that's already been done in regards to the possible design of the new play equipment.  In the meantime, please check out the idea-sharing that's been going on specific to renovating/replacing the play equipment at the Community Park and weigh in!
